4 situations why you do not progress in the gym

In today’s article I show you 4 of the most common situations that are usually observed in gyms and for which we do not make progress or achieve our objectives:

1. Not having an established plan

Going to the gym to improvise, do what we want at that time or do a different thing without any sense are some of the errors that I usually see in much of the people who go to a gym (especially if they are commercial gyms).

At first it may work for you during the first weeks or months, especially if you are a rookie. However, the achievement of these results has an expiration date and, sooner or later, you will stagnate and be wasting time and effort.

To be able to progress efficiently in the gym, at least half-long term, it will be necessary for you to have a good training plan according to your goals and your context. In this way you will know perfectly what to do in each training and you can quantify your progress, being able to make adjustments in your planning every time it is necessary. Hiring a good coach is also a great strategy to improve your performance in the gym.

2. constantly change routine and/or exercises

If weekly or every very little time you change training or exercises program, you will not be able to progress or improve your performance.

This happens because you will not be enough time to get the most out of the exercise or training routine. The ideal will be to apply a progressive overload for several weeks or even months to improve.

Some exercises such as those considered as the “basics” (squat, dead weight, military press, bank or dominated press) and their variants with dumbbells, kettlebells, pulleys … You could even use them for years and years and be able to improve, as long as you are able to generate adequate progressive overload.

This does not mean that you never have to change the exercises, but my recommendation is that you do it only when necessary. If you are progressing with an exercise, do not change it or will be limiting your progress.

3. Want to achieve many goals at the same time

Win muscle mass, lose fat, be stronger, have greater cardiovascular capacity, improve aesthetics … These are some of the most repeated objectives in the world of physical activity and nutrition. The problems is that many people consider wanting all these objectives (and even some more) at the same time and is very complex.

Although it is true that beginner subjects can achieve some of these objectives at the same time, once this stage ends, they will have to prioritize an objectives over others. Wanting many things at once is not the most efficient to progress at an adequate pace.

My recommendation is that you prioritize and centers only on an objective to which you give the utmost importance and that your training program focuses solely on that objective. Or at most 2 objectives, but that they are synergistic and related so that they do not overlap, since if it will not be very difficult for you to get it.

The most common example would be that of all those people who want to lose fat and gain muscle mass at the same time. As I explained is another articleexcept in certain cases, this is very difficult to achieve.

4. Not carrying a feed plan according to your goal

Another of the most common mistakes that I usually see is the fact of not paying attention to nutrition and feeding in any way, without minimal knowledge, waiting to see results.

The most common cases apply to muscle mass gain objectives, where you need to create a caloric surplus or fat loss objectives, in which it is necessary to generate a caloric deficit as we have already explained in many blog articles.

Therefore, it is of no use to follow a super optimized training plan for your goal, that if you do not give your body the energy requirements it needs, it will not be able to achieve it. As with training, hiring the services of a good dietitian-childist will be very helpful.

I hope this article is very useful and makes you reflect in the case that you are in any of the previously exposed situations. If so, if you want help with any of them, do not hesitate to contact us HEREwe will be happy to help you.
